London Posse - Gangster Chronicles - 1990 / 2001

Just a quick one before I go to work -

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

London Posse were one of the earliest groups to emerge from the British hip hop scene, initially being formed by Sipho the Human Beatbox who asked friends Rodney P, Bionic and DJ Biznezz to join him for a tour of the US supporting Mick Jones' (formerly of The Clash) new group, Big Audio Dynamite. When they first formed, they didn't even have a name, but whilst playing in New York City, they were constantly referred to as "the London Posse" because of their hometown, and the name stuck. On their return, they released a single - "London Posse/My Beatbox Reggae Style" (Big Life, 1987) - produced by Tim Westwood which detailed their experiences, but following this, Sipho and Biznezz left the group. Read On...

They did 2 versions of this wax. A repress in 2001 with tracks like Hows Life In London on, and the original 1990 version obviously without the newer tracks. The re-release came out on Wordplay along with a couple of 12s (Well I say a couple, definately one which was 'Hows Life In London' rereleased with an extra track, i'd have to dig it out the crates to be sure cos it's not on Discogs). The original was released on Mango Records but good luck in finding it. And the original Hows Life In London 12 was out on Bullet.

Phi Life Cypher - Playback - 2006

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Phi-Life Cypher are back with a bang! And this time they’ve brought their mates! Put simply, 'Playback' is the definitive collection of PLC’s greatest collaborations. With contributions from DJ Vadim and The Herbaliser (both Ninja Tune), timeless tracks from DJ Skitz (BBC Radio 1Xtra), Taskforce (MFTC) and more, early classics and a clutch of brand new exclusive cuts - what you have here is quite an album!

Having put Luton on the hip hop map with their debut album ‘Millennium Metaphors’, Phi Life Cypher have gradually become one of the most respected and uncompromising acts in the UK. Phi Life possess two MCs, Si-Philli and Life, whose high energy, fast flowing, smoothly smart lyrical skills are perfectly supported by the hard-driving, funky beats of the crew’s DJ Nappa. The group started making music together around '96 but in true hip hop fashion, it has taken more than a moment for the boys to reach the top. Making it to the final of Tim Westwood's Talent 2000 competition and ripping the mic on DJ Skitz's seminal posse cut 'Fingerprints of the Gods' helped propel them towards the upper reaches of the UK hip hop world: since then, they have not only collaborated in the studio with The Herbaliser, DJ Vadim, and Taskforce, but also spent time as part of Gorillaz’ live show, including their show-stopping performance at the 2002 Brit Awards.

Karl Hinds - Have Patience - 2004

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Self-produced sophomore longplayer delivering potent messages through themed wordplay. This project has allowed a frustrated Karl Hinds the creative freedom to wax lyrical about perceived music industry agenda, the importance of staying independent and true to an art, as well as passing social commentary on wider issues facing inner city youth and urban music within 2004. As a direct consequence some of the musical arrangement doesn’t function as a distinct element and merely provides a basic framework for the vocal performance. For some this may be a disappointment but to me it plays towards Karl Hinds main strength – his tight delivery and interwoven lyrical interplay.

DJ Yoda, is a Hip hop turntablist who utilises obscure samples to create a unique, cartoony style. He is described as "DJ Shadow with a sense of humour".

Between 1995 and 1998 he studied English and American Literature at the University of Warwick. During this period he began performing at Mojo, a popular Warwick hip hop and soul night until he graduated. After he left university he began releasing underground demo mix-tapes to small music shops. Manage - Ultimate S.I.N. feat Skandal - Extended Version

News : Loki - Summer Knows A Darker Shade Of Grey EP

After the release on Dropzone of 'ELSEWORLD' in the coming month, the second EP, due around May, will be titled 'Summer Knows A Darker Shade Of Grey' and will feature production from Scatabrainz of Speech Therapy fame and Krash Slaughta....the legendary!

Brainz produced 'Across the room' which got a healthy wee buzz towards the end of last year and has some work on 'ELSEWORLD' too.

Summer knows....is written and i'm well chuffed with the vibe. Its going to be very different from anything I've done....remember Loki is dead after all. Its like a tour of the 80's in all its grim splendour. Tories, junkies and uncles in flairs!

  • CD only I'm afraid on this one. Had this on in the cars alot this week so I thought 'Yeah I'll throw this up when I get some hot minutes'.... Nice Instrumental album from the revered Stix himself, garnished with precise cutting of a top of the line nature. Not much cutting mind, it's mostly just quite tasty beats. I actually vibe off the intro the most, and track 8 was getting numerous plays. Should'o been out on wax this like it would've been a nice little weapon for the tablists. Also wanna be checking for his other offerings, Soul Communication is the most recent effort for instance. He's also in a group called 'WBI Red Ninja' so you might wanna check for them, got some 12s out.

Task Force are an underground British hip hop group from Highbury in London, England. The group is led primarily by two brothers Chester P (vocals, song writing and occasional music production) and Farma G (vocals, song writing and music production). The name Task Force has been undertaken however by DJ Louis Slipperz (music production and DJing) and loosely by Ramson Badbones (vocals and songwriting) who has appeared on a few releases as part of the group. Task Force officially formed in 1999 with their debut album New Mic Order distinguishing them from the London hip hop collectives Mud Family; of which Chester P was a founding member and the Bury Crew (named after Highbury in London), though Task Force are mutually considered members of both. What do I know about Scotland? Not alot, I watch Still Game on the regular (a comedy about to old Scottish blokes living in fictional Glasgow suburb Craiglang)but on the hip-hop side I know nothing. Let me tell you about Scottish rapper Loki, GB posted the Friendly World album a few weeks back, after hearing that I found this, and its every bit as dope as the last one, there are a few weak songs but mainly Loki's lyrics are hard hitting and insightful over independent beats. His dialect is hard to get at first if ur living outside of Scotland but stick with it, ye canny miss this!

Tim Westwood Vs KRS One - The Showdown - Autumn 1997

    RE-UPLOADED ON REQUEST

Try n spread this around gents so the links stays alive for a bit.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Depending on how long you've been living hip hop, this may ring instant bells with you. On a Friday night nearly ten years ago, KRS One turned up with some cronies at the BBC Radio 1 Studio to do a scheduled interview with the shows host Tim Westwood. Tim, I'm sure was under the impression that everything was all good in the world of hip hop. And that the interview with KRS was set to be an inspiring discussion on the world of rap music. The absolute can of beans that Kris dropped on Tim made for a brilliant 45 minute battle of words.

This file is near enough exactly how it was broadcast that night, beginning with some live freestyle audio from KRS, Lord Finesse and likes of Fat Joe, in relation to the beef at the time between Lord Finesse and LOTUG. This was the gateway into conversation, and is relevent, which is why it's included on the interview. The contradictory Kris relays several viewpoints on hip hop culture's histroy and what he thought Hip Hop faced in the future... In my opinion when things jump off Tim does an acceptable job of setting the record straight, the comments on how Radio 1 as a station operates aside.

I began making this file available to those close around me 2 days ago, but in all honesty this will be a very very rare file indeed. Probably because you had to be in that position to press record on the night. LUCKILY I was. And so this has been a diamond in my archive ever since. The intention was to unleash this on the planet exactly 10 years from when it took place, but I just couldn't wait. I could be dead by next year who knows, and it would be a real waste if this didn't become semi-widespread.

I think with the then unforseen MP3 revolution, and the ease with which we obtain hip hop in 2007, the debate allows you to take stock of the mind set we all had ten years ago and look at this conversation in a privilaged light.

This is an essential piece of British American hip hop history.

    And so....... Enjoy! .... and

    Remember where it came from.

You can share this interview anywhere across the net as you see fit. All I would ask is that you include the above image along with the link, and The World Trade Centre London URL along with it would be appreciated too.
